Way to go...

Sometimes I tend to be catatonic, bored, and lost from nowhere. But it doesn't merit that I am deranged.

What I am experiencing, maybe typical, for a man in his' midlife.

The thing is, I am in race against time, my mind dictates to run fast, and win the fight. However, my body getting hostile with what my mind dictates.

From being robust, my body likened now to an overused machine, dysfunctional and needs overhauling I guess, to be right on tune, to get a little bit alignment until the good fight ends.

Let us see how far I can still run or maybe walk, and deal fairly with what fate needs me to accomplish still!

Where Am I Heading to?

I wish I am still the same throughout these years, younger, slimmer, and poorer.

My job compensates my hardships but in the process I think killing me softly. As of late, I just realized that from barely 60 kg in weight, I am almost 80 kg (this is so gross), and I have shortness in breathing, and I am easily tired. This is because of so much STRESS at work.

Gone were the simple days of my life, why it became complicated I am clueless and I would literally get it back again.

I have so many pre-occupations, thoughts that really make my senses paralyzed in a given time. And the ones that linger, I know my health is not stable and I need someone to rescue me. I need a break, I need a breather, and I think I just need a few weeks holidays.

Or shall I leave my job for good, a well-paid job that a dozen at least waiting to replace me in the position, and instead opt to being an obscure entrepreneur somewhere in the Pacific? So help me God!

Finding My Way Back

Life is indeed a journey.

I've been a way for sometime.

The months I was on a hiatus I traveled a lot; the Philippines, Hongkong, Singapore, Japan, India, the United Kingdom, the United States, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and counting.

I aged fast as days flown swiftly. I have now countless strand of gray hairs, my strong body getting weaker, I am in my midlife, I supposed. My two sons are fast growing-up, and my lovely wife, though adding age as well but alas, getting lovelier each day!

I am doing good with my jobs, two of them, the on in Food Industry is a challenging one, it's okay though a good learning experience in the process. I need to keep both of these jobs due to high demand on financial sustenance, especially amortizations to settle every end of the month (too many of them to name).

As of late, I can't help myself thinking of the endless possibility of making it BIG somewhere out there...I hope to wake up one day more daring and bold for me to face the challenge of putting my own business.

But wait, shouldn't I be thankful, to find my way back of blogging again?

In memoriam

It happened August 10, 1997. And it took me that long to have the nerve to write this memoriam, maybe the wounds were finally healed of losing someone you dearly loved. But the scar will linger throughout.

Not that I would like to recall the past, but the vivid details of how the events unfolded were memories hard to deal.

Untimely, tragic and grief and great loss were few words that best describe my feeling when you left.

I wish I could hold the time, but just like everyone else, my existence depends at the mercy of time. When circumstance strikes, we tend to realize our being slaves of fate; we are helpless, weak and vulnerable.

I was there throughout, we shared almost everything, we had silly moments, we fought, we cried, and we laughed.

I was so blessed growing-up with you; you respect me in a way I did not deserve. In one of our petty fights, instead of harming me what you did instead is to punch the dining table so strong your right fist bled. You knew I got nosy at times because I cared a lot; you were too way sleepyhead, no plans at all, only to realize the reason of your being laid-back after your untimely demise.

In our family among the siblings you were a man of few words. You spoke your mind often times, but precise on thoughts, your moves were unpredictable that’s why it came a surprise when you finally settled down at a young age. We were all in awed it wasn’t though a shock because you were blessed of strong personality and handsome, and these make the girls trail behind your back. We knew you were not ready by that time, your defense was you were drank the night it happened, but your gentle manner surfaced and married her. We were sad thinking that you would be having a life contrary to the easy-happy-go-lucky life we both shared, but we salute you for being man enough to stand firm amidst great responsibilities.

We then found separate worlds…you settled in the place where I called the urban jungle with your newfound family, and I began traversing the corporate world.

After barely six months of not seeing you, we met again. I noticed your eerie countenance totally different to the one I used before. I stared at you and I noticed the loneliness in your face, I tried waiting for your timid smiles, your simple gesture whenever we see each other, you look haggard, but still the same handsome face only prematurely aged. I consoled myself not to worry as my remorse maybe unfounded, your manly gestures were still very much intact but it was then evident the hard life of a man who married at a young age. I knew it was not an easy life for you. When you gazed at me blankly, I noticed that your bright eyes turned melancholic, your fair complexion turned dark—you wore cheap clothing and jeans. The you did not fail me, you smiled at me but it pained me to see the bitterness, and laughs became a rarity. There were coldness and apathy during that meeting. You arranged it to ask me to be one of the godfathers of your eldest born, Monica. I nod and we reconnected once more.

I learned from our folks your being very proud of me. Without me knowing you were idolizing me. When I regularized in my job as a Management Trainee at Motorola Philippines you treated your friends to booze overnight and bragged that I held office at the tallest building in the country’s business center. You asked me at one point not to focus solely in my job and mind my lovelife and reminded me of having you as my best man. Only then, it was never realized.

The sluggish flow of my corporate career made me decide to leave the country when an opportunity to work abroad knocked. A day before my departure you were there, you traveled half-day just to bid me goodbye, and without any hint turned out to be our last meeting. You were so sad then, and couldn’t say a word. You even didn’t want to see my face, you avoided my stares. When I asked you of what present should I bring on my return, you uttered instead “ingat lang lagi at magdasal lagi.” My heart melts then, and to date every time I have the recollection of our last meeting I always end-up teary eyed.

While working abroad you sent me letters, narrating the beauties and challenges of fatherhood, and that Monica would soon have a sibling. Pauline came, another daughter, the last child you fathered.

After a few months working abroad, one afternoon while having a siesta, I had a peculiar dream, “I saw Mum wailing in front of a white coffin.” It was a bad dream, an afternoon nightmare I must say. I woke-up with goosebumps and felt a sudden gust of wind that made me shivered frantically.

The following day, around 9:00 a.m., I got an overseas call from Manoy Ben, our brother-in-law. Telling me at first to relax and not to get shocked of what he would say. Then he broke the lethargic news, and upon hearing it, I could not utter a word and too weak to move, I almost fainted and grasping for breaths totally oblivious of my existence. The news was like a bomb; it hit my senses and shattered my soul. My vision became real. Mhe, my younger brother, even at the last moment had always his own unique way of doing things; he visited me through the vision while on doze.

Ramil “Mhe-mhe” as we fondly call in the family passed-away due to nightmare, at age 23. He was the youngest and the last that came in the family but the irony he was the first one who bid us goodbye to the point of no return.

At first there were denials and pains of his’ untimely death, but our faith dictates that we were all bound to die one day. Oddly though, death is always associated of unexplained loss and grief. Only then the things that would make us going, are the ones left behind and among them, memories to cherish. And that, Mhe would always live in our hearts.

You will always be my little brother, my best friend and your keeper. How I wish someday in my last few remaining breaths you are there and Mum to meet me half-way towards the place where we the livings aim to reach.

Be at peace my beloved little bro. I love you and I always will.

One sided love affair

Take me out from the journey of unreasonable passion.

I've never been so obsessed on something, yet lately I have this feeling of being possesed by an outside force, the urge is too hard to resist by mere glimpse of you.

What's in you..?

My fingers tremble when I get held of you, and when you're in my lips, once the sparked get into the tip of your lean body, I get aroused and shivered, you never failed to stimulate my senses. When stress stikes, you're valued than prozac as things tend to get brighter and lighter.

You are easily consumed, no foreplay needed, all it takes a spark, your petite body fired in microseconds and we both reach the arousal level easily, it's so fast, and left me crave for more, and more, and more. You defy logic, you disregard what is just and good. You're weak in flesh, vulnerable, genorous yet so selfish.

You came into different colors, sizes and flavors and that makes you very alluring. Your charm can easily fool anyone, regardless of sexes and ages. Once you got into the nerve, there's no way for you to stop wrecking havoc, you comfortably demolishing the fragile organs of my body, you are worst than anesthetic. Skinning you off is a sweet torture and I always end up the loser.

You doped a lot, and even outwit the savviest minds, and you never stopped, even lured many to addiction and death.

Many have tried to curb the urge of you. Some succeeds, some fails. You are stubborn and provocative, withdrawing from you would never be as easy as trowing off your butt anywhere. You're a curse, but loved by so many.

Ahhh...cigarette, this love affair is one sided...you made me fell in love. You gave me your skin and yet you got my flesh in return.

And the worst thing you're boldly doing is that you smoke many souls to obscurity.

The role we play

I slouch once again in the pitiable couch lying a meter from the tv set.

The couch which is covered in maroon fabric, robust and uncomplaining, provides comfort to asses after asses sat on it. Its charm is too hard to resist that I let sit on it a little while, and oftentimes extend for hours.

What if there is no tv set near the couch? Is it still alluring or enjoyable to sit on it? Or, it would just another mere object that lurks in a narrow corner of the house’s living area?

It makes me ponder then, are the roles we play at times tend to be like the couch or the tv set?
We know that both the couch and tv set give comfort or relief. In what situation then we become the couch or the tv set?

Drawing comparison as to who or which one has the greater or less roles to play is a lousy analogy.  All is inter-connected; one can’t simply function without the support of others. Whatever you advocacy is, be responsible enough on your actions, as according to Newton’s 3rd Law, “for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.”
Isn’t it awesome to think the ubiquity of every living or non-living thing in this world? Their purpose of existence…

Are all things then created equal..?

Science says NO!
In GOD’s eyes, YES!

My life in hindsight

I was trying to see life poetically, rather than theatrically.

Lately, I came to realize that my not so pleasant side turning into meaningful existence. I supposed it has something to do with my emotional maturity. Things that are used to please me got boring, and my outlook becoming broader and logical.

My worries that used to get into my nerve are now mere passing delight on a given day. What we can get anyway from worrying?  It negates the spontaneity of thoughts. It fuels pain, adds boredom, and kills sound judgment.

I cried at times not because of bitterness, but for being blessed of sound mind to think soundly amidst trials…my tears purge any obscurities, or doubts to live a fuller life even in misery. My existence is more than enough to thank for…my wife, my son, my job.

The gifts of unwavering FAITH make me fairly understand not to question whatever tribulations that come my way, it’s just a matter of having a mindset that things happened for a reason, and to become stronger whenever a problem strikes. It’s not easy at times but quitters never win.

Someday this life will be taken away, we will be judged not because we accomplished much or little—but through our deeds.

Too good to be true

I supposed to see with my naked eyes, but my heart sees things I could not define. The vision is surreal, if it is a phantom of delight I want to seize the moment.

Let me float, or fly—but how could I sans wings? Shall I walk..? My knees are too weak to travel a distance, not because they are crippled but my whole being can’t carry the weight of uncertainties. Such is the reality. You weave plans, and your greatest dilemma is fate. The pathways to succeed are too stiff at times. The future can suck ones sanity wholly, you tend to strive and in spite of working hard—what’s left in the pocket is just enough to make ends meet. You get disgusted and lie low…you procrastinate and maybe giving-up is the easiest way to escape..?

When would I become a firm fighter..? Am I ready to win or to be unnerved? Nay, if I solely own tomorrow, I should have fought the game of chance long time back.
They say, if you would not try you would never know the outcome. Damn it, for the sake of my love ones I dare not complicate things. When it comes to their welfare, I am sensitive and too way generous. Gambling the given decent way of life they have would be a callous step uncalled for. Should I not mind anymore the wealth that this world can offer, I supposed to be thankful to what I currently have. But the thing is--I crave for more!
Ahhh…too complicated…
Thanks for this life somehow as it is too good to be true that I’m now on my 30’s, I will be forever grateful to my Creator till my last breath.

Inhale...exhale

I am gasping of fresh air...don't know why things are so absurd lately.

I have lot of issues to resolve and they are ticking like time bombs ready to explode soon.

I need to hurry, to run fast--but my feet don't cooperate.

My office loads are way too light....I've been blessed to have lighter loads lately, maybe the massive work demands would come in two weeks time, it's year end, anyway.

Big boss would be in the office tomorrow, hopefully things would be much better as we have maturing short term loan to settle, and new project funding requirement.

Since my work doesn't cause any stress at all in the meantime...why then I'm afflicted with a heavy feeling feeling.

It's my fragile family, the biological one...

Even I want to avoid the thoughts of it...I can't help myself as I am part of a whole.

Why they are so immature, why they are so unreasonable, and why they have so much pride?

Or they are just plain stupid, not realizing the stigma of a broken family,  the impact of separation to the innocent ones that don't deserve at all of emotional tortures.

I want to save them, it's not easy I know, but I must do it, for no one else is there that cared too much--so help me GOD!

Comfortably numbed

As to what extent one can measure the challenges that this life has to offer..?

There are no exemptions…even the innocent ones are being punished.

Life can be so simple…yet so complicated. Is problem cosmic in nature that once it strike life gets so messy? Or the problem itself is one’s twin in disguised since birth?

Sometimes the more you want to be stronger; the further you get weaker. Emotional torture paralyzes the brain, and you cannot escape the feeling of numbness which will lead you to drain of self-esteem. What do you think will happen if one becomes comfortably numbed?

People who are emotionally attached to you seldom know what it means to be connected.

Why total care is so elusive when you are dependent on something that you can easily grab? And love can really fill the feeling of emptiness? I don’t want to think that love is not intuitive. However, far-sightedness would result to overlook what is bare and essential to the eyes. And as we know, love maybe bare but our naked eyes do not see it; it is the heart. If I can just know what is inside the heart?

Ahhhh!!! Learn not to neglect the common. Everything is destined to last may it big or small.

Drained

This best described my mood for the past two days now.

Things seem so complicated, I feel so tired and fed-up, is it because I have a slight pain in my left foot..?

Why things need to get into your nerves? Why things counter-flow when you least expected them?

Such cause and effect theory works indeed at times.

If I can just control the ticking of clock and stop the world from spinning…

Wheh…too much stress—too little support.

Go on, never be a loser…this is a race worth fighting for.

There is always an exit; a light waits at the end of the tunnel. Don’t let your thoughts consume of obscurities.

Be wiser though in every move, each trial has always a lesson to draw.

Cheers though..!

The power out there

The struggle to live justly would always a struggle between evil and good.

You erred, the guilt lingers. Repeating the scornful ways are kissing the devil's ears, and consciously you're doing it again and again and again.

When we'll learn to read the hidden meanings of life. The message is not encrypted at all, if only it's easy to understand with what our heart says...
"God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I can't change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."

Never surrender

In spite of problems that seem pinning us down at times, still care to smile instead of lurking out in a corner.

By doing so you'll find out the easy and better option to resolve the problem.

Life is short to just focus on adversities...trials will always be there. The thing is, there is always a way out to make your life happier.

Talking to oneself

When was the last time you talked to yourself?

It is called soliloquy (talking to oneself), an effective tool for actors to master their lines on certain acts or for speakers to rehearse their speeches.

At times, we engage in soliloquy, without knowing that what you’re doing is perfectly normal, a technique that directly or indirectly improves our personalities.

I was in college when I first encountered the term in one of my literature subjects. From then on, I used the technique when rehearsing a presentation, speeches, or scheduled interviews. Believe me, it indeed works and usually boosts confidence. Soliloquy is best practice in front of the mirror.

Speaking of mirror…

Yesterday while dusting off my life size mirror in the room, I noticed that my then “cute” countenance (as friends called me during my younger years har har har), already turned into a face of a man who is on his mid-thirties, and that an aura of adulthood is undeniably evident.

I have aged indeed I told myself…

When I was in my teens, what I wished was to grow-up faster and do things that adults were doing, like partying, drinking and smoking, etc. Then I got employed, and realized smoking and drinking would just a waste of hard earned monies. I still drink, only occasionally, or some calls it social drinking.

Now in my 30’s, I fancy the years to unfold slowly.  I wish that I am still in my 10’s or in my 20’s. A psychologist friend told me, it is but normal for persons who are in their later 20’s or 30’s, even 40’s to engage sometimes on cheeky things that they are used with. She cited that if young ones are vain, how much more the adults who may have the means to proper grooming?  And what about those in their 50’s, 60’s...? “Well, they are on the quest of the fountain of youth,” she quipped. In short, being vain, as long as it is not overtly excessive is healthy.  No wonder beauty/grooming industries worldwide generate billions in sales revenue annually.

We might age at a snail’s pace, yes. But, we can’t totally alter the natural flow of aging, nor forever hold our being young, gorgeous and strong.  However, moderation (to anything) is one of the keys to long life.

Worrying develops unwanted wrinkles and too much stress will shorten your life.

One day, the inevitable will come, and I told myself.., “It is worth leaving if life is productively spent.”

Caring gestures, sweet nothings and lies

The emotional scar that one can get out of the imaginative tell-tales of unrequited love is a temporary ride on a seemingly flat world of deceit and hypocrisy.

Foolish as it may sound, the heart is dumb at times of caring gestures, sweet nothings, and lies...

You get inspired, the iota of happiness seemed so big to carry, and heavy enough to shrink self-esteem and sanity.

The loathsome reality of being ditched is frustrating, yet it is a humbling experience of being awaken to a possible one way ticket love affair. The timeliness of realization is a blessing in disguise, misery is averted and the road to Hades' den halted. The only draw back then is the wounded pride, and takes time to mend once again.

A lesson is drawn, while it is true that the end doesn't justify the means...

The heart is forever vulnerable, always at risk of being hurt, and yet never gets tired of falling in love.

I got to believe then, that when it's wrong, it is indeed false--and when it's left, it is not at all right.

Swimming in the vastness of a narrow bowl

(photo credit: Bro. Noly N. Berjuega, my cousin, who is a seminarian based in Ramsey, N.J. and an aspiring photographer)

The celebration of freedom manifests by the bird above.

And yet freedom is not absolute.

At times I swam in the vastness of a narrow bowl, ahhh...the uncertainties of daily survival is enough for me to cling stronger with my FAITH.

The stark reality on the complexities of life fails me to understand that the world would never be in order. Spontaneity is a rarity or simply one's rant of things that are too complicated to work out. Frightening thoughts of what if's, what if's, what if's...strike my inner self. It's more of a torture and numbs my fragile body, good I am impassive to pains. Fear is the silent anesthetic that weakens my spine, and paralyzes my senses.

Why peace of mind is elusive? Is it because the heart is full of deceit and beyond cure?

Why we tend to feel alone, despite a life full of love? Is it because we demand so much? Is  enriching our spiritual lives can fill the vacuum of emptiness alone?

Happiness can't be measured of contentment. Satisfaction is very much objective. You may be contented but not happy nor satisfied; you always crave and want more...

Pain, fear, peace, loneliness, happiness, love--mold our inner selves. Just don't let envy or jealousy, bitterness and hatred take over your existence, it will be your losing end. Never be blinded of what are lies. Advocate to what is just and fair.

Always have a rational judgment. Madness is real; happiness doesn't last long.

Existence is a game of survival regardless who you are, only a few or the fittest finishes the race.

An object in motion

I stagnate lately, in fact my increasing weight can attest to that.

A good friend asks me why is it in spite my cool countenance my temper ignites easily?
Ironical isn’t it?

Patience..? I have lots…but I am no meek when a particular situation calls a rational approach. Yes, I admit my temper easily ignites whenever I come across jerks. Who wouldn’t be? If I do not have patience, then I’d always opt to physical fight.

Case no. 1—it was Friday, we were in a hyper mall, after buying foodstuffs from its grocery section we planned out to dine in one of the restaurants in the mall. Before doing so, we decided first to load the foodstuffs in the car which was in the parking area. My car was parked just a stone’s throw away from the main access of the mall, and even the security guard saw us rushing towards my car. After we dumped the foodstuffs, we headed back to the mall only to be informed by the same security guard that only families are allowed to enter, and since I was with a male friend we couldn’t enter the mall and dine. Stupid right? The situation pissed me very much and resulted to a heated argument with the security guard. I told him how on earth the other security guards did not inform us while in the grocery section (there were at least 2 guards spotted us), and even allowed us to enter the mall an hour back? He yelled back to follow his’ order, and leave at once!? But before doing so I argued the confusing policy of the mall, and swore not to set foot ever again in that mall.

Case no. 2—when you are driving expects once in a while to meet rogue drivers in the road. Driving in this part of the world is both a challenge and survival. Your typical day in the road comprises of being tail-gaited, cutting your way, and don’t be surprised to witness gross and deliberate traffic violations such as car racing of locals in the main thoroughfares, beating the red traffic light, obstructing left/right turns, swerving, unnecessary blowing of horns, using cell phone while in the wheel, stopping anytime without giving a signal light, etc. So, given two or three encounters of driving situations I enumerated while you are in the road, do you think you will remain composed? I bet, you would always end up cursing the reckless driver, either by saying FU_K or go to HELL!

I remain calmed at all times. You want a proof..?

I learned somewhere that the real test of temper when your wife nags at you (it applies to married men), if your temper gives in, you will end up hurting your wife. You see, whenever my wife nags or throwing petty tantrums, I am always a giver. It’s hard though, but I think my wife is just simply needs my attention heheheh.

Well, each of us has each own limits. Our limits differ in a given situation, as in the case of how much patience you bear, or temper you can manage? The spontaneous flow of nature hampers when an alien force alters it, Newton’s first law says, “an object in motion tends to stay in motion until acted upon by an outside force.” Just like anyone’s temper, it ignites when ones calmness jeopardized by undesirable situations.
